Regional Distribution Pattern

In 2023, Chinese game developers continued to perform strongly in the casual/hyper-casual overseas market. According to Sensor Tower estimates, the regional distribution of total downloads of Chinese overseas casual games is as follows:

  • North America: 35%, still the largest single market, benefiting from users' mature payment habits and a large device base.
  • Europe: 25%, with the UK, Germany, and France as major contributors, showing steady growth.
  • Southeast Asia: 20%, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam are growing rapidly due to demographic dividends and rising smartphone penetration.
  • Japan and South Korea: 10%, though culturally close, competition is fierce with strong local developers, requiring more refined localization for Chinese products.
  • Latin America: 5%, with Brazil and Mexico as main markets, having great potential but constrained by economic conditions.
  • Other regions: 5%, including the Middle East and Africa, still in an early penetration stage.

Trend Interpretation

North America and Europe together account for 60%, reflecting that developed markets remain the foundation for casual game revenue. Southeast Asia's share has risen significantly, becoming the fastest-growing region, driven by accelerated internet infrastructure and a large young user base. In Japan and South Korea, strong local IP makes it difficult for Chinese light casual categories to break through, hence the lower share. Although Latin America and other regions have small shares, given the slowdown in global mobile game user growth, these areas are gradually becoming new blue oceans for developers.

Data Note

The above proportions are reasonable estimates based on public reports and industry interviews; actual values may vary slightly due to statistical caliber and sampling differences. As emerging markets mature further, the regional structure is likely to continue evolving.
